Greetings Ascension Family!

Thanksgiving is less than a month away, and many families will be experiencing this holiday in a very different way due to the many setbacks and effects of COVID-19.

As an extension of our “Fall Back to Family” event, and as part of our Room for More initiative, Ascension would like to introduce a creative and impactful challenge that will bring hope to families in need.

Participating Ascension families are encouraged to write a one-page message (roughly 250-500 words) that addresses the following questions and points:

  • What have been some of the real-life ups and downs of family life during COVID-19?
  • How has God’s goodness and grace been prevalent?
  • How have Ascension and its members been an anchor of hope for your family?
  • How can families in our community connect, join, and participate in the family of Ascension Lutheran Church?
  • End the message with an encouraging Bible verse that is close to your heart

Each message will be provided in an envelope to a family that receives assistance from our Manna Pantry. Along with the message, we ask that each Ascension family take a portrait of themselves to be included in the envelope. As a final gesture of gratitude, an extra gift card will be provided to each Manna family recipient, totaling a $60 donation.

Why $60 you ask? Well, on October 31, Ascension will be celebrating 60 years of being a joyful community of the caring Christ, and what better way to celebrate than being a joyful community to families in need.

In addition, for each family that participates, a $60 donation will be made to Soldiers of the Cross Amplified, a collaborative Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod COVID-19 response initiative that assists workers and families within LCMS congregations, schools, universities, and other organizations who have been confronted with personal crises. For more information, you may visit the respective link above.

Please send your messages and photos to our Director of Media, James Buettner, by Thursday, November 19, or you may drop them off at the church office. Once submitted, they will be prepared and provided to our Manna Pantry team.

In this season of gratitude and generosity, let us make “room for more” hope and encouragement to our local families, as well as families out and abroad in our nation. Through this, we can humbly “bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).
