You may have wondered . . . What is the difference between “Ascension Women’s Ministry” and “LWML?” Briefly – the women’s ministry at Ascension is not organized at this time. The ministry itself has a wide spectrum of functions and is considered the “umbrella” of women’s activities, which primarily focus on the bonding and building up of our congregation’s women. Some examples of women’s ministry activities: women’s Bible study, the upcoming spring Cruise retreat, past events such as fashion shows and Christmas teas, and attendance at women’s conferences (not LWML-related). Noel Lambert and Riane Thompson are the contacts for any activity. Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, on the other hand, is a circle and branch of the national LWML organization of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, which provide guidelines, stipulations, etc. conducive to the work of Christ and the church. We at Ascension consider LWML a “part” of the Women’s Ministry, but not necessarily one in the same. ALL WOMEN WHO ARE MEMBERS OF THE LUTHERAN CHURCH MISSOURI SYNOD ARE CONSIDERED A PART OF LWML. All you have to do is decide to come to an event or meeting.
LWML is:
Mites for Missions:
• Mite Boxes are used to collect money for missions.
• Twenty-five percent of the mite offering is sent to the national LWML for national mission grants, and the remaining 75 percent is used for Florida-Georgia mission grants.
• Mite money is used to further God’s kingdom through the mission grants selected by delegates at district and national conventions.
• Place your Mite Box wherever you can feed it: dressing table, office desk, laundry room, car, kitchen counter, etc. You “mite” want to give a Mite Box to family members and friends.
• Return your filled Mite Box to your LWML society, who will mail the mites to the Florida-Georgia LWML district.
Servants:
• Volunteers dedicate their lives to making a difference for others.
• Gospel outreach and faith-sharing help spread God’s message of hope around the world.
• Servant activites touch others.
Young Women:
• Young Woman Representatives encourage young women to get involved and actively participate in conventions and activities.
• Young women are trained and motivated to lead.
Bible Study:
• Members reflect Jesus’ love as they are nourished by the Word.
• LWML women are together in prayer each Monday at noon.
Conventions:
• Inspiring conventions with mission speakers, Bible study, fellowship and worship.
• Delegates vote on grants, officers and bylaws..
• Official women’s auxiliary of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.
• Over 250,000 members in the United States.
LWML is everywhere to love and to help.
