The first phase of Ascension's expansion/renovation project determined how much we could build on this piece of property. We can add up
to 4,000 more square feet of building on this site.
The Mission and Ministry Council then paused to review, with the help of Church Coach Kurt Bickel and the focus groups, our strategic growth plan. This led to
the Council's decision to remodel the main sanctuary rather than replace Zehnder Chapel with another sanctuary.
On June 19, 2007, the M&M Council approved the following guidelines for the Expansion/Renovation
Committee (be assured that no hammer or saw will be involved until the Voters have approved a plan of action).
Main Sanctuary – Propose a remodeling plan for the Sanctuary that allows for both traditional and contemporary worship. It is important that the Sanctuary look traditional during traditional services and
function as a contemporary service when that service is being conducted. Attempts will also be made to create a better people-flow between the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall.
Parking – The houses on Southcot to be demolished to allow for better parking close to the sanctuary.
Education Facilities – To redo old space or create new space for Bible study, especially for Sunday
school. Some renovation of the preschool is also needed, including better security.
Administrative Offices – To find alternative location for church offices if current space is needed for Christian education
or better-people flow between Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall.
Storage – More, as well as climate-controlled, space is needed for storing items such as drama costumes, VBS, Sunday school, yard work, etc.
